About Us

We are an independent voice. savetheroyalnavy.org is simply a campaigning web site and not an organisation as such. The owners of the site are not RN or ex-RN personnel, rather informed and interested civilian supporters. We have no direct links or contact with Ministry of Defence or the RN, neither are we part of any media or political organisation. All information on the site is sourced from the public domain. We do however strongly welcome contributions from serving and ex-RN personnel.

We have decided against hosting our own forum on this site as there is already an excellent RN forum hosted by NavWeaps.com. However you can post comments on the articles or contact us with comments and suggestions.

The site is run on a voluntary basis and on a shoestring budget and donations towards running costs are welcome.

Values

We are not aligned to any political party, although we are critical of the current (Labour) government.

We think Britain can avoid future conflict by maintaining peace and stability through armed deterrence. We reject the arguments of CND and those advocating unilateral disarmament as dangerous and unrealistic. Unless we attain the utopian fantasy of worldwide multilateral disarmament we must retain forces to protect ourselves.

We recognise that we do not live in an ideal world and there will be times when we must meet aggressors and terrorists with force. Ideally use of force should always be done under a UN mandate and be voted for by the UK parliament. Use of force should always be seen as a last resort.

We advocate stronger armed forces and increased respect for our serving personnel past and present and are committed to having forces that serve the democracy.

Aims

To put pressure on the government to properly resource the RN. To provide a major increase in funding to redress decades of cuts and neglect.

To provide an independent and honest assessment of state the RN, free from government or political spin, available online and in language that the layman can understand.

To help correct the imbalance in media coverage of our armed forces. The Army has a high profile at present due to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The RAF has always managed its public relations more effectively than the RN. The RN, arguably the most important of the forces, is often the 'silent service' out of sight and out of mind.

Aiming to educate the public about Britain's need for strong naval forces and to raise awareness of the dangers of allowing the navy to decline.

To raise morale amongst serving RN personnel by showing there are people who understand the difficulties the service faces.

To see service personnel treated fairly, valued and properly paid particularly those who are risking their lives on a daily basis and those who have sustained injuries, both physical and mental while serving their country in a succession of conflicts.

To build an online community and provide a place for expression of opinions and issues relevant to the current RN.

This site is not:

A site for naval photos although we will carry a few relevant images. There are lots of other great sites for this. See the links page

A place for  general discussion of RN history (except when there are lessons for the future).

An old comrades reunion site.

Carrying information and discussion about other navies (Except where directly relevant to the RN today).
